Shutters Turned Artwork

Our living room has had nothing on it's walls till this past month.  Shocking I know.
I hung our Advent Calendar on one wall.
I've known I needed something BIG to take up this long wall and found just what I was looking for at a yard sale last Saturday.  {The yard sale was complete with a space heater. :-)}

I bought four of these shutters for $4!

They were a hideous deep brown with even more hideous bright, gold, cheap hardware.

In exchange for a haircut from me, Steven agreed he would "pay" up by sanding these babies down and removing the hardware.

I painted them with $1 oops paint I had and some leftover cheapo Wal Mart paint.  I love the coastal look of these two paints together.  Who says you have to pay a fortune for a good look????

This simple live evergreen wreath has proved to be quite versatile.

It's been hung outside on our front window.

And it accompanied us on another failed attempt at family photos this past weekend.

Sucking on a candy cane.  Bad mother I know.

Do you have a space you want/need to hang something large?

Don't feel like you need to spend a lot of money!

Think outside the box and try to visualize uncharacteristic pieces as artwork.

There was a HUGE pile of old shutters for FREE on the side of the road a few weeks back . . . alas, my husband would not let me get them even after I gave him the sad eyes . . . *sigh* It's understandable though. We're gonna be moving about the country for the next half decade so lugging around stuff that may or may not fit in our house is a goal we're trying to achieve. Daniel's good about keeping me on track ;) The shutters look great on your wall! And Keller is adorable
